About Me
Career Goals and Philosophy
I began the MLS program at Emporia State University in an attempt to transition my love of learning, research and sharing knowledge into a career. I have been able to effectively interweave new knowledge with my background and skills to effectively create an interdisciplinary view of information transfer. This view has been beneficial to my study of the information service profession. The experience I have in the medical, teaching and political science fields has not only helped shape my interest in information delivery, but has given me a “lens” through which to view customization and client-centered information delivery.
After over a decade and a half in the healthcare field, first as a certified pharmacy technician and then as an pharmacy technician educator, it should not be surprising that my interests lie in the area of health sciences librarianship. I have always taken seriously the role of information in the healthcare process, and the impact that it has in people’s lives. I have taken a special interest in health information literacy, having seen the dangers of miscommunication in this area. I would like to continue to be a vital part of the healthcare team, serving not only patients, but providers, administrators, educators and others that can benefit from up-to-date information in this ever-changing field.
That said, I continue to hold an abiding interest in adult education. The opportunity to positively influence the lives of others has been a deeply rewarding experience. I would love to continue to work with adult learners, and look forward to combining my skills as an educator with the knowledge I now possess in the field of information to encourage the growth of knowledge.
